Along the Road

Travel Tips

The following are tips that we have learned throughout our travels.

1. When booking a place to stay with AirBnb always ask about a cheaper rate. Most of the places that we booked we were able to get significant savings off the asking price. Send a quick note with a short bio to the owner. The worst that can happen is they say no. Right?

2. Sign up for rewards programs to earn free flights, hotels and food.

3. Utilize Uber. It has been in every country we have been in so far and in some cases it has been a third of the cost a Taxi would have been. In fact in Mexico city the Uber driver waited for us for 2 hours while we climbed Teotihuacan and then we paid him cash for the return trip.

4. ID bracelets for kids. We purchased Road ID bracelets for both kids in case we ever get separated for some reason. They include the kids names, our emails and phone numbers as well as medical information for Mason being a diabetic.

5. Always take a business card from the hotel so that you can find your way back. We have been in several situations with language barriers. In those instances we were able to show drivers exactly where we needed to go.

6. Let your kids plan a day on your trip. They are so excited to have input on your trip. Our last day in Auckland we went to a pool, beach, playground and then out for Chinese food.
