We have been exploring Lima, Peru for the last few days. We have an Airbnb apartment. It is basic but nice. We have found some great parks for the kids, and they enjoy having space to run around and play. We are about 2 blocks from the ocean. It is gorgeous. We have also found some necessary places like a market and a place to do laundry.
Today we did our first “Airbnb Experience” with Jared, a native Minnesotan who has been in Lima for 4.5 yrs. He showed us around and was a great resource for us to ask questions. We learned about local fruits and vegetables, Peruvian instruments, and even saw a Incan pyramid in the middle of the city. We visited a few markets and walked over 15,000 steps. The boys were troopers.
We do have to mention a few other things:
- We tried Inca Cola (thanks for the heads up Rhys). It does smell and taste like bubble gum or a cola flavored sucker. Tom, Chelsea, and Cooper liked it, but Mason was not a fan. It is definitely worth a try, but like Mountain Dew I wouldn’t recommend drinking too much of it.
- McDonald’s in Lima has some interesting new choices including fried chicken, a snack box with nuggets, fries, mozzarella sticks and onion rings and a chicken BBQ crispy onion sandwich.
- We are a little worried about a water shutoff that is taking place in Lima for 3 days (Friday-Sunday). The water in the whole city will be shut off. Apparently they need to relocate several water pipes. The apartment we are in has an extra tank and we have a big bucket filled with water, but this will be a new experience for us.
- Peru is playing in the Copa America and just scored against Chile and the city went wild. We heard screaming and honking in the streets from all over. Goooooooal!
